Description:
The N. elegans punctatus sub species is much larger than N. elegans elegans and can be distinguished by the yellow soles it has on its feet instead of the grey-green colour of N. elegans elegans.
 
Distribution:
This form of N. elegans is found in the south-eastern area of the North Island.
 
Ecology:
Arboreal, nocturnal hunters but sun-bask, love eating moths and flies.
 
Habitat:
Live in scrub and forest areas especially Kanuka and Manuka where it occurs.
 
Notes:
This sub-species displays an aggressive behaviour, baring its open blue cavity mouth and barking if provoked.
