Previously Hoplodactylus nebulosus
Description:
Very similar in pattern and colour to the forest gecko (H.granulatus) but there is usually more brown or green rather than grey, and the pattern is less distinct. The area of the belly is finely speckled. S.V. length is 96mm with total length reaching 170mm, similar to H. granulatus.
Distribution:
Only found in Stewart Island and outlying islands.
Ecology
Nocturnal, but may sun-bask. Arboreal habits.
Habitat:
Forest and scrub areas.
Notes:
The specific name means "cloudy" - probably a reference to the colour and pattern.
